cindy-wysongCindy Wysong, Wealth Advisor with Boyer & Corporon Wealth Management, reached a personal and professional goal when she recently became a CFP® professional. There is a common misperception that all financial planners are “certified,” but this isn’t the case. In fact, anyone can use the title “financial planner.” Only those who have fulfilled the CFP Board’s certification and renewal requirements can use the CFP® certification. The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER trademark represents a high level of competency, ethics and professionalism.

Having joined BCWM as a para planner then taking on the responsibility of wealth advisor, Cindy’s experience helped prepare her for the 10-hour exam. CFP® candidates are tested on major financial planning areas, ranging from general principles of financial guidance to specific planning aspects such as insurance, investment and securities, income tax, estate, gift and transfer, asset protection and retirement. Cindy’s education was broadened extensively because financial planning encompasses so much information. Preparing for the exam forced her to be methodical and detailed in her approach to studying.

CFP® professionals, like Cindy and others at BCWM, have several years of experience under their belts related to providing financial planning services to clients prior to earning the CFP® certification. This hands-on experience ensures that CFP® professionals have real world financial planning knowledge, so you can rely on them to help develop a realistic financial plan tailored to your unique needs.

When it comes to ethics and professional accountability, CFP® certificants are held to the CFP Board’s Standards of Professional Conduct. They are obligated to maintain the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence as outlined in CFP Board’s Code of Ethics. The Rules of Conduct require CFP® professionals place your interests ahead of their own at all times and to offer their financial planning services as a “fiduciary,” acting in their clients’ best interest.

“It’s exciting that the learning culminated from my studying for and successfully passing the CFP® exam better equips me to respond to our clients’ needs and provide them with the best advice possible for their financial futures. I’ve always considered myself a life-long learner, so I am certain I will continue seeking more industry knowledge and resources. Continuing to learn and applying that information to help meet our clients’ financial goals is what keeps BCWM at the forefront of Kansas City’s wealth advisement firms,” explains Cindy.
